UK Church leaders: do as we say not what we do.

Anglican church bishop highly critical of financial market participants:

On Wednesday the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, branded the traders who cashed in on falling share prices in the troubled bank HBOS as “bank robbers” and “asset strippers”.

Looking for another rake to step on:

In an interview with The Times, he said that people had become enslaved to the god of money, and that leaving the market to regulate itself was like leaving a pack of hyenas in charge of a herd of cattle

Yet the church was found to be playing the markets just like any other hedge fund or investment group. In fact it was shorting the pound and made a decent packet.

Read the whole thing. It’s funny.

  1. Short selling performs a valid function, and is a moral activity. And I would totally expect the churchies to be against it.

    Another example of blatant hypocrisy.
