Gillard’s Carbon Tax

To register your objection to Julia Gillard’s recently announced carbon tax check out the following:-

This tax is bad public policy. It is not revenue neutral. It will become an ETS over time. It will not cool the planet. It will cost us heaps. And it contravenes an explicit pre-election promise.

  1. Carbon [soot] that is polluting is ignored while [CO2] that is essential for trees and flowers is blamed. Furthermore science proves that carbon contributes to warming while the case against CO2 in unproven

  2. Mr. Pong:
Hi what’s all the fuss about emitters? Polluters should be allowed to pollute. I myself have been known to get gaseous from time to time. I believe that the 4 or 5 tons of peer-reviewed evidence supporting the science of climate change are wrong. The hand full contrary documents by qualified climatologist paid for by the carbon lobby are right. I formulated an opinion on climate change a long time ago and I will not change.

  3. Professor Ian Plimer could not have said it better!
If you’ve read his book you may agree that this is a good summary.
Are you sitting down? Okay, here’s the bombshell.
In just FOUR DAYS, the volcanic eruption in Iceland, since its’ first spewing of volcanic ash, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet – all of us.
Of course you know about this evil carbon dioxide that we are trying to suppress – it’s that vital chemical compound that every plant requires to live and grow and to synthesize into oxygen for us humans and all animal life.
I know, it’s very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of: driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kid’s “The Green Revolution” science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, holidays at home instead of abroad, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your 50 pence light bulbs with £10.00 light bulbs …well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just four days.
The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth’s atmosphere in just FOUR DAYS by that volcano in Iceland, has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon. And there are around 200 active volcanoes on the planet spewing out this crud any one time – EVERY DAY.
I don’t really want to rain on your parade too much, but I should mention that when the volcano Mt Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines in 1991, it spewed out more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than the entire human race had emitted in its entire time on earth. Yes folks, Mt Pinatubo was active for over one year – think about it.
Of course I shouldn’t spoil this touchy-feely tree-hugging moment and mention the effect of solar and cosmic activity and the well recognized 800 year global heating and cooling cycles, which keep happening, despite our completely insignificant efforts to affect climate change.
I do wish I had a silver lining to this volcanic ash cloud, but the fact of the matter is that the bush fire season across the western USA and Australia this year alone will negate your efforts to reduce carbon in our world for the next two to three years…and it happens every year.
Just remember that your government just tried to impose a whopping carbon tax on you on the basis of the bogus “human-caused” climate change scenario.
Hey, isn’t it interesting how they don’t mention “Global Warming” any more, but just “Climate Change” – you know why? It’s because the planet has COOLED by 0.7 degrees in the past century and these global warming bull artists got caught with their pants down.
Just keep in mind that you might yet have an Emissions Trading Scheme – that whopping new tax – imposed on you, that will achieve absolutely nothing except make you poorer. It won’t stop any volcanoes from erupting, that’s for sure.
But hey, relax, give the world a hug and have a nice day!

  4. What appauling about all this is how they constantly make claims that it will ‘create jobs’. This is dispicable politics. By having less resources and more work to do our living standard will decrease.

Yet they talk about it as if it will lower unemployment???? Fucken clowns.

  5. Sounds like she pulled a Jonny??????

“There’s no way that GST will ever be part of our Policy. Never ever. It’s dead.”

  6. I’ll bet it’s all just an accent issue! The Real Julia probably said, “And now, a Carbon Tax”, which we misheard as “No carbon tax”! It’s all our own fault- how does she put up with us?

  7. I personally liked Humphreys idea of replacing fuel taxes with a $30/tonne carbon tax. Revenue and equity neutral but the non-transport energy sectors total emissions are about three times that of the transport sectors and petrol demand is largely inelastic so there should be a net decrease in emissions.
Also, electricity price increases of late are in part going up  due to anticipation of a carbon price anyway with less investment due to the uncertainty.
Plus then you’re not adding a new tax, you’re replacing an inefficient one with a broader-based lower one. Genuine reform.
Tolls on all major roads would also be nice.

  8. Its scary when people talk about carbon tax talk as if it will only effect transport and maybe power generation.

Every single thing in our lives is made by converting raw materials with energy. Energy and labour are ultimately the only two costs of everything in society (scarcity of raw material will be tied to labour).

The idea that you can set a price on carbon emission is utterly ridiculous. If you can do that, then please explain to me the how you understand the entire free market. A $30 carbon tax will have effects that can only be dreamed of. We don’t know what they are. What we do know is that we can extract 1 tonne of carbon from the air for about 50 cents, which is why every carbon market as always ‘crashed’ (ie. driven down to its real value), by the simple act of planting some trees.

infact when you look at world carbon output (excluding china) net CO2 output is now going down – the main reason is the planting of trees and reduction in deforestation.

  9. To think people still believe there is global warming is breathtaking.

It seems that all that is needed is the repetative TV propaganda about nature, the enviroment, ‘global warming’ etc. and the public are easily manipulated.

People dont have opinions of their own anymore. Whatever comes out of the idiot-box becomes their opinions.

If anyone believes there is a global warming crisis then you must be a complete fool.

  10. If only more people would google topics like greenhouse warming and co2 effects they would get a more balanced view to formulate an opinion. .Rather than all the government stooges that pander to the panic Gillard is creating for a new string of related taxes on everyone .There are so many scientists throughout the world that totally debunk the theories and agree that global warming is simply a matter of our planets normal function as it goes through its natural cycles of heating and also cooling. Remember times when one day the temperature was eg. 27degrees and the next day was 40 degrees. That simply shows the immense power the sun has because of solar flares. In fact many scientists believe if the earth warmed a little more and carbon dioxide levels continued to rise marginally ,we would get bumper crops and forestation which would benefit everyone. The way in which the Govt talk about greenhouse gases anyone would think the planet was enclosed in a glass ball which would not let any heat out . When in reality any heat on earth simply rises into the atmosphere and dissipates naturally. All the carbon tax will do is cost everyone more for everything , make our mining and industrials uncompetitive on world markets and cost all of us dearly economically. In one of the ice ages approx. 450 million yearsago it is estimated there was 10 times as much carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere and glaciers were forming on our planet. Our Govt. is simply trying to panic people in order to get more taxes by duping them all. Ever really wonder what J. Gillard does with our taxes , I think it was a miserable $17million to all our flood victims as she said she had no more to give, probably because she pledged 500 million to Indonesia to build Muslim schools

  11. I see Wayne Swann is going to donate $1200 million to our farmers over 3 years from the carbon tax that Australian companies will be forced to pay . Does that means all the overseas countries that have purchased large farms in Australia and use them to export food back to their own countries will be getting subsidised by Australian Companies. Get real labour
